Amanda Power, Founder, Color Creative Lead @amandapowerhair

Originally a native of Kansas City, Amanda knew from a very young age that she was interested in the hair industry. One of her fondest memories is being told by TIGI Ambassador and family member, Rusty Philips, that as a young girl she had dreams of working for Vidal Sassoon.

Although she didn’t attend Vidal Sassoon Academy, she did receive her Cosmetology license in 2007. Amanda began working and training under Rusty for several years immediately after graduation and there she became a certified Schwarzkopf & Tigi colorist. With creativity in full pursuit, she yearned for more culture and diversity which ultimately lead her to relocate to Chicago, IL. She apprenticed under Toni& Guy alum Lisa Jindu, creative director of Streets of London salon, where cutting was at the forefront of her education. Amanda meticulously honed her shear craft during her nine month apprenticeship. Since her training was under European leadership, she was able to master many fashion forward street style trends during that time such as mullets, shags, and other “alternative” hairstyles.

After one short year in Chicago, she still felt something was missing. Her main interests in High School included psychology and sociology. Where else but New York City, the greatest city in the world, a haven for diversity, to dive in head first to explore those things while also being able to create? Amanda has been in NYC working in the hospitality and hair industry since 2010. Respectfully deemed as “a jack of all trades” when it comes to hair, Amanda can do it all with precision and ease. She is notoriously known for her “natural looking” fantasy colors, redheads and effortless low maintenance blondes.

Owning and operating Power Hair, or any salon for that matter, never appealed to her. After a decade of working for others, however, that shifted. She realized that nothing could hold her back and just like that Power Hair was born. She’s proud to have a team of supportive artists not just working for her but beside her. Our philosophy behind our studio is simple, real (good) hair for real people. Amanda thrives on human connection, the ability to collaborate with strangers and creating kick ass hair in a space where everyone is comfortable being themselves.
